Purchasing a collar for your canine companion requires some forethought as to its use, since there are many types of collars designed for definite purposes. Will the collar be worn to be naturally attached to a leash so that the animal cannot run into traffic or run out of the owner’s sight, or does your dog need obedience training or a behavioral correction? Bark Collars – vibration control: These collars control excessive barking by emitting an ultrasonic sound that will interrupt barking by thinkable, the animal. Harmless, but very effective. Can be worn with other collar.
Choke Collar: Also known as a slip collar, this is a simple distance of link chain with a large metal ring attached. A noose or collar is made by slipping the chain straight through the large ring and forming a loop that fits over the dog’s head. A leash can then be attached to the large ring. In order for the collar to work correctly the ring must be on the topside of the dog’s neck. A sharp tug on the leash pulls the collar tight – the first half of the revising – and relaxing the leash loosens the collar – the second half of the correction. Very efficient for teaching a dog to walk alongside his expert in a mannerly fashion. Two notes of caution: never buy a cheaply made choke collar, they can break, and secondly, as with any collar, be sure to portion the dogs neck before purchasing. A collar should not be too loose or too snug.
